One of the great things about communicating using the internet is the ability to remain anonymous. All to often people are afraid to say what they really think or really feel for fear of being judged or attacked. Having the ability to post anonymously allows someone to speak their mind without those fears. Sometimes they have really great things to say, other times they don't. It isn't necessary to force people to reveal their identities to be able to post their thoughts online, if their comments aren't liked people can just ignore them. The internet is great and will continue to be great as long as it is allowed to maintain most of the freedoms that it has.

Let's see if blogger will let me post this anonymously :)... ha, nope, at least I can't figure out how. I like not being forced to reveal my identity, but being accountable for what I say helps me to develop my thoughts better, even for myself.
ReplyDeleteChina has very stringent rules about connecting every social media account to a real person by their government ID. Not that you can really take anonymity out of the internet but I still don't like the idea of government attempting to force people to reveal themselves.
ReplyDeleteAlthough people would behave better if their name was tied to what they do online.
ReplyDeleteWith the constantly increasing amount of information that is tracked, no one is truly anonymous online. Perhaps having our names displayed would make this more apparent.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Brian. There is anonymous and there is true anonymity. The average user who doesn't understand how to stay truly anonymous online will always be under the false impression that the username "anonymous" displayed on his comments means he is anonymous.
ReplyDeleteHaving dealt with Web Security the past few years, I have to disagree with this. There really isn't anonymity on the web. True, you can hide behind a new personality online, but ultimately you will always leave a trail back to yourself.
